During this 16-day tour of Costa Rica and Panama, you will experience a real adventure. Discover the most modern city of Central America Panama-City with its world famous canal, hike the volcano in La Fortuna, relax on dreamlike beaches on the Pacific and Caribbean cost, go white water rafting, diving or surfing - there are plenty of possibilities.The journey takes you from the modern Panama-City to Santa Catalina, Bocas del Toro and Boquete. Afterwards you enter Costa Rica and cross the country until you reach San José.

Itinerary
Today you will arrive at Panama City. If you whish we will take you to your hotel (transfer optional). The first evening you can relax from the long journey or take a walk through this fascinating city.

At 08:00 you will meet your guide in the hotel lobby. Your first day starts with a city tour through Panama City, which is Panama's capital. You will visit two of most famous parts of Panama: the "Casco Viejo" and the Panama Canal. The Casco Viejo is the oldest part of Panama City, where you can see the "Palacio de las Garzas". It is theo fficial seat of the president of Panama. Afterwards you will go on to Panama´s most iconic sight: the Panama canal. A wonder of modern technology and famous all over the world.

Not far from Panama City, you can find the Chagres National Park. Today's excursion will take you to this park and the indigenous villages of the area. One of them is the village of the Embera-Wounan tribe. They still live in the middle of the jungle. The National Park was created to preserve the tropical rainforest and the rivers of the area. These rivers are important for the Panama canal as they provide the water needed for it.

Today you will continue to Santa Catalina, a small town beside the Pacific Ocean and a famous surf area. If you are interested in this sport you could take a lesson today (optional). You can also relax on one of the long and loneley beaches.

You can spend the day as you whish. You could take a sunbath on the beach or swim in the Pacific Ocean. If you prefer to be more active you could take surf lessons or go hiking on the "Sendero de la Cresta" which leads you up to the highest point of Santa Catalina. Another possible excursion for the day would be a boat trip to Isla Coiba and some of the surrounding islands, that conform the National Park. On this boat tour you will also have the possibility to go snorkeling (costs about 70 - 80 USD). If you are lucky, you might be able to see whale sharks in the Coiba National Park.

Today you will visit the beautiful and the historically important Boquete. In Spanish, the word Boquete means 'gap or opening'. Looking for a cheaper and quicker way to the Pacific, curious gold seekers trekked this gap. Farmers began settling the region near the end of the nineteenth century. This region is one of the best places in the world to grow coffee and the production here is judged to be among the finest in the world. Boquete has an impressive flora and fauna, including rain forests and mountain chains. The region is considered to be quite unspoiled, since it is not as famous as other ones.

Boquete is known as the "Valley of the Flowers" and it is nestled in the western highlands of Panama, near the border to Costa Rica. Boquete shares some of the same mountain ranges with Costa Rica, as well as some of the incredible wildlife and rain forests. Because it is not as well-known as Costa Rica, Boquete is a 'road less traveled', and offers a quieter, more authentic natural experience. Today you go on a hiking tour on one of the most beautiful trails of Panama: the Quetzal trail. It got its name from the 600 Quetzal birds that live in the surrounding Baru National Park. You might even get a chance to see one of them!

Your journey will continue to Bocas del Toro, one of the most beautiful archipelagos in Latin America, consisting of abandoned islands with unspoiled nature. This remarkable archipelago is truly unforgettable. Bocas del Toro captivates its visitors with the amazing plants and animals that make it appear so splendid, almost like a fairy-tale.

Today you are heading to Costa Rica! After a 3-hour bus ride, you arrive to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. Here you can find breathtaking beaches where you can do a mix of activities involving adventure and natural history. The area is also known for its coral reefs, multi-colored sand beaches (black, yellow, and grey), rich coastal vegetation, mineral resources and lush forests. There are many activities that you can do in the area and your tour leader will be very happy to tell you about them and help you to book in advance.

From Puerto Viejo de Talamanca you will continue to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui. Although these cities have similiar names and you could get confused as both are mostly only called Puerto Viejo, they are totally different cities. Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui is known for its variety of birds and is therefore a paradise for bird lovers. The river Sarapiqui is known for white water rafting and boat trips to see the wildlife of the area for example monkeys, waterfowls or sloths.

You can spend the morning as you whish. There are a lot of options you can choose from (all optional). You could go on a white water rafting tour on the river Sarapiqui or start the day very early and go on a birdwatching tour. Another option would be a walking tour through the nature research station "La Selva". You will learn about this project and see a variety of animals on a walk through the station. If you like to book any of these options your guide will be happy to help you. In the afternoon you go on a Cocoa tour, where you will learn about the history of cocoa in America and see the process of the manufacturing as it was done before factories were build and machines started to do the whole job.

Today you will go on from Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui to La Fortuna. After your arrival in La Fortuna you will be taken to the river "El Choyin". There, you will go swimming in the hot volcanic springs surrounded by nature, which will be a unique experience!

Today you will have time to explore the area of La Fortuna. You have lots of choices, what you could do. For example you could go on a rafting tour or go on a hiking tour up the Arenal volcano. Today you decide, how you want to spend the day. Your guide will help you book any activity you want to do. Only during the night you will have an included program: you will go on a night walk. You might see some interesting Costarican frogs and other nocturnal animals.

Today you will continue to San Jose. On your last day you will have time to do some souvenir shopping in Costa Rica´s capital. Visit the central market, where you can find souvenirs and typical Costarican food. If you prefer to do some sightseeing, you could visit the national theatre or one of the museums, for example, the Jade, Gold or National museum.
